Modern warfare 2 help xbox live?

When i wear my riot shield, i use c4. but i know that there is a way to detonate the c4 without using he switch. but i dont know how. i want to because when im getting shot at. i want to detonate without exposing myself. i have seen people do it. i have xbox by the way. thank you.
