What is the exact work for a copy writer in an advertisement agency?

I am verymuch interested to work as a freelancer -copy writer.i don't have experience in that line.May i know what is the real meaning for the copy writer and how can i be a copy writer? to whom i should contact? Please let me know.Ravindran.D
