What foods are "delicacies" and what foods are for the "poor"?
Well, one of the cheapest cuts of meat you can buy is ground beef, though it depends on what kind of beef you're buying... Angus would be considered more of a "luxury food" than regular ground beef, for example. The best cuts of steak are Prime Rib and New York Strip, the cheapest is sirloin... as far as cheese (my favorite food!), American is actually made from processed "end pieces" of real cheese, so it's more of a "poor people's" food (some people around here call it "welfare cheese" although it tastes pretty good to me, and I've had just about every kind of cheese there is) some of the more expensive cheeses would be gouda, havarti, camembert and brie... Cheddar is more common, but certain cheddar's are pretty expensive too (English cheddar is pretty pricey). Some of the common foods people consider "rich" or "ritzy" are caviar (fish eggs... blech), truffles (that's really expensive mushrooms, not chocolates), Dom Perignon or Cristal champagne (these are also called "Grand Cru," any wine from an ultra-famous maker with a great vintage could go here... we're talking over $100 a bottle or more), veal, and so forth... Some "common" foods are RC Cola (that's a southern thing!), Hamburger Helper, Peanut er and Jelly Sandwiches, Kool Aid, and the like. Cheaper cuts of meat include brisket, chicken legs (versus ), and "weird" foods like chitterlings, tripe, and the like.
