I think my parents are going to shun me?

Everyone has different goals and ambitions in life however your parents feel they know what's best for their little girl and my guess is no man would live up to your parents high standards at this point. I suggest you not be combative but rather thank them for their concern and tell them you have listened to all the reasons that you shouldn't be with this man and that although you love them and respect their opinion that you are an adult and you would like to have their blessing to continue dating this man. They do not have to like him right now but if he is a kind person with your best interests in mind your parents will eventually see that and accept him. I admire the fact that you have realized that money is not the key to happiness. So many people think it is and suffer when they realize that they were wrong and sold their soul for something as insignificant as money.
